Why choose us?
We understand that choosing a holiday that pleases everyone can be hard, we also understand that choosing to holiday with an independent business over a well established company can be daunting, so here are a few of our recommendations for giving Votre Vacances and the Vendee a try this Summer.
Situated on the west coast of France, the Vendee has its own micro-climate, similar to that of the Riviera.
A region favoured by Parisians during the rise of the railway, the seaside towns are a perfect example of Edwardian architecture.
Famed for its beaches, the Vendee has a rich history waiting to be explore.
With over 2500km of coastline there is no other region that boasts as many beaches ranging from picture postcard white sands, to the Jurassic coastline at Talmont.
If beach days are your go to holiday then the Vendee won’t disappoint, and with many beaches of the larger towns offering sailing and surfing lessons, even the most active will enjoy a day at the beach.
Thanks to it’s coastal location, the Vendee has a predominantly Maritime climate, similar to that of the French Riviera.
With Summer temperatures averaging in the mid to high twenties, it’s ideal sight seeing and sunbathing weather.
Spring sees mild evenings, perfect for al fresco dining- great at May half-term and June, when the weather in the UK isn’t quite t-shirts and shorts weather.
Famed for its beaches, the Vendee also has a rich history waiting to be explored.
Visit the prehistoric megaliths, the city of Nantes home of the Dukes of Brittany, the once German occupied La Rochelle and the Edwardian grandeur of the seaside towns.
With a boulangerie in the village, a continental breakfast is a must, as well as trying the regions delicacy of seafood, potatoes from Noirmoutier seasoned with salt harvested from the marshes is a must.
Not to mention the Fiefs Vendeen wine produced in the region.
With over 1100km of dedicated cycle tracks throughout the Vendee, there is no better way to explore the region.
Head through the pine forests and along the salt marshes and to the coastal routes.
Bike hire is available at Chateau La Foret, so there’s no excuse not explore the Vendee on velo!⠀⠀⠀⠀
This year also sees the Vendee host the first 3 stages of the Tour de France, taking place at Puy du Fou, Noirmoutier and Fontenay le Comte. Head over to our News page for more information.
Set within 50 hectares of parkland, Chateau la Foret is an idyllic holiday location, unspoilt by time.
Everyone who arrives at the Chateau is enchanted by its old world charm and original features that can be found throughout. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From the bar located in the stables to the tennis court found in the old walled garden.
Every inch of the Chateau and it’s parkland oozes fairytale charm.
Pools with a view
There’s not many places you get to swim, or sunbathe with views of an 18th century Chateau. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(I am still mesmerised by all the details and am constantly seeing something new*.)
*Convinced one day I will see a ghostly shape in one of the windows!
Le Grand Defi
One of the many unique things the Chateau has to offer is Le Grand Defi outdoor adventure centre. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There aren’t many holidays where you can zip wire through the trees in the morning, go paint balling in the afternoon, and pony trekking at night, all without leaving the site where you’re staying.
The best part is, it’s suitable for little ones as young as 2!
There is something for everyone at the Chateau. Including cooking and art classes, military Fitness, yoga and wine tasting.
Daily children’s clubs run throughout the summer months too, meaning you get to have some r & r time! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The evenings see the Chateau’s courtyard come alive with live bands, entertainment and much more.
Chateau la Foret is situated in the pretty village of Saint Julien des Landes, meaning daily fresh croissants and patisserie are a must (you are on holiday after all!)
Set in the heart of the Vendee, the Chateau is nearby to all of the Vendee’s must see and do attractions, including beaches, lakes, salt marshes, pine forests and other hidden gems.
Us, Votre Vacances
You’ve chosen the destination of your holiday, you’ve even decided what type of accommodation you want to stay in, but what then?
With so many businesses out there offering seemingly the same thing it can be difficult trusting which one to choose, especially if you’re looking at an independent business (like us!) as well as a larger well known company. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week, we show you why you should go out on a limb and champion the independent – the businesses where people actually do a happy dance every time a customer chooses them! – you really do make someone’s day!
We want you to make the most out of your stay with us, which is why all our accommodation is designed with you in mind.
Located in the old orchard of the Chateau with bright open plan living area with direct access on to the decked terrace, it’s the perfect base for you to make memories.
The Personal Touch
We love that as an independent business we’re able to go the extra mile with our customers, providing complimentary extras such as hand wash and lotion, olive oil and balsamic vinegar as well as providing bespoke itinerary suggestions based on what you enjoy.
We know the region
The Vendee is an area we, as a family holidayed in, and are still discovering what it has to offer, and as such have knowledge of this varied region.⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not to mention we love it here, and can’t wait to share with you all our favourite places.
